Sparta, Wisconsin – Mathews Shooter, Bodie Turner, won the Vegas Shoot for the second time in his professional career, this time setting a Vegas Shoot record with a 900 89x, missing only one X over three days of competition.
“Going into Vegas this year, I’ve never had confidence like I did this year with my Title,” stated Turner. “With the scores I have been able to consistently put up with my Title, I knew it was only a matter of time until it all came together at a tournament, and it ended up being Vegas”.
Turner’s unprecedented performance during the first two days of competition landed him a spot in the Championship Compound Open Shootoff in front of a crowd of nearly 6,000 in Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Theater. Up against 29 of the world’s best archers, Turner would go on to battle his way through sixteen ends of shooting, where only inner tens, touching the inner X-ring would be scored.
After the second end of the shootoff, Team Mathews’ shooter Sawyer Sullivan dropped from the competition along with half of the field leaving only 15 archers remaining.
Team Shooters Jimmy Lutz and Ace Coleman, put on a great performance both making it to the third end before dropping out. Only five archers remained after the ninth end – four of whom were previous champions.
After the tenth end, all five archers remained, meaning that all five had shot a perfect 300 30X on stage. It was at this time, the officials gave the two-end warning, meaning the fourteenth end would require 'inside out' tens to win.
After a heart-stopping fourteenth end, Team Shooters Bodie Turner and Chris Perkins were guaranteed a podium spot but would have to battle for the Vegas title alongside the third shooter remaining - Nicolas Girard.
Perkins dropped out in the fifteenth end claiming third place for Team Mathews. This left just Turner and Girard in the sixteenth end to become Champion. Turner produced one final inside out ten to claim the Vegas title for the second time in just 3 years.
