Williamsburg, KY – Virginia S3DA recently celebrated a significant milestone with the successful hosting of its first-ever Indoor Target Regional event at the Spearhead Sportsman Complex in Clintwood, Virginia. This event marked the beginning of a new chapter under the leadership of Virginia S3DA State Coordinator, Crystal Winebarger.
The event had enthusiastic participation from 31 archers representing four new S3DA teams in the state. The archers showcased their skills and sportsmanship, making the inauguaral event a memorable one.
Bobby Mullins, the range safety officer and supervisor of Spearhead Sportsman Complex, was honored for his exceptional hospitality and unwavering support. His dedication to providing a welcoming environment for Virginia S3DA archers and their families has been instrumental in the program’s success. Mullins commented, “Children are out future, and seeing those smiling faces each time they come through the door makes my day.”
A touching moment during the event occurred when several young archers gathered to pray for a grandparent who had to be taken to the hospital, exemplifying the strong sense of community within the Virginia S3DA family.
Crystal Winebarger expressed her pride and gratitude, stating, “I am so proud to have all of these awesome kids, coaches, and teams in the state of Virginia. We are all like family and we strive to help one another, regardless of who is on whose team. Archery is truly a one-of-a-kind sport, and events like this highlight the unique camaraderie among the kids. We are just getting started, and I can’t wait to see how much we have grown by the time we host our Virginia S3DA Indoor State Championship on February 8th, 2025, here at the same venue.”
Parents and coaches also shared their positive experiences. One parent noted significant improvements in their daughter’s daily life since she began archery, while a coach expressed her joy at having such a program available in Virginia, benefiting both her and her son.
In a heartwarming exchange, Crystal Winebarger praised a young archer for his performance. The young boy humbly replied, “I’m just a string and stick kid, but I beat my personal goal and shot a 114!”
Virginia S3DA looks forward to continuing its mission of fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for youth archers across the state. To learn more, please visit the Virginia S3DA Facebook page or contact the Virginia S3DA State Coordinator, Crystal Winebarger (cgshlw@gmail.com).
