COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Texas A&M University (TAMU) secured their 23rd collegiate national title with top spot in the 2025 USA Archery Indoor Nationals Collegiate Overall Team competition.
Collegiate competition has been dominated by the University of the Cumberlands in recent times, and although they claimed a seventh consecutive USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals title in Foley, Ala. last October, they were unable to retain their Indoor Nationals crown, albeit finishing second.
And while TAMU and University of the Cumberlands battle to determine number one status, the University of Rio Grande continues to make great strides. The Ohio-based school only began its archery program last year and finished fourth at the Collegiate 3D Nationals. They went one better as part of the Indoor Nationals Collegiate Overall Team competition by claiming third, just ahead of Lindsey Wilson College.
Texas A&M swept the board in individual recurve men, led by Jack Krengel, Alex Gilliam and Trenton Cowles. Venugopal Kunnavakkam finished fifth. The scores for Krengel and Gilliam were good enough to qualify for the Indoor Nationals Final. There they were joined by fellow Aggie and eventual gold medalist in recurve women, Catalina GNoriega, as well as compound men bronze medalist, Sawyer Sullivan.
Sullivan took collegiate gold. GNoriega finished second in Collegiate Indoor Nationals behind Eunice Choi of Columbia University. Choi became the first archer from Columbia to win gold at Indoor Nationals Collegiate since Sachiko Keane claimed the compound women's division three years ago.
Collegiate archers were well represented at the Indoor Nationals Final. As well as the four from TAMU, the University of Rio Grande had Colton Green compete in compound men. He finished joint second alongside Austin Taylor of Lindsey Wilson College in Indoor Nationals Collegiate.
Two others who posted strong enough scores to reach the Indoor Nationals Final were Morgan Rives of William Carey University and Kyle Coffey of Union Commonwealth University. Rives won gold in compound collegiate women and Coffey first place in barebow collegiate men. Both lost their opening matches at the Indoor Final in Vegas to the eventual gold medalists.
Texas A&M have a little momentum as focus shifts to the outdoor season and the 2025 Hotel Planner USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals, which this year will be held in Lansing, Mich. They head to Collegiate Target Nationals as the defending champions.
Early registration fees for competitors runs through April 24, with the registration deadline being May 1. Coach credential registration closes on May 8.
The 2025 World University Games U.S. Team Trials will be held in conjunction with the 2025 HotelPlanner USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals, as part of the 72-arrow qualification round. The World University Games take place in Germany from July 16-27.
Athletes who want to participate in the U.S. Team Trials must agree to the Intent to Compete Form and add the additional $75 registration fee for 2025 World University Games U.S. Team Trials at the time of registration.
