Williamsburg, KY – The 2025 South Carolina S3DA Indoor State Championship was held at Riverpointe Chistian Academy in North Charleston, South Carolina. Over one-hundred archers from thirteen teams across the state gathered to participate in the event. The academy’s gymnasium buzzed with excitement and anticipation as competitors, coaches, and spectators filled the venue. This championship not only showcased the incredible talent and hard work of young archers but also fostered a sense of community and sportsmanship among all attendees.
Although Josie Smith, an eagle archer, missed an arrow on the final end and came in third place, she still had a wonderful experience. Her mother, Denise Smith, reflected on the moment stating, “Although Josie was sad that she came that far to have a slight hiccup at the end, she still did a remarkable job. I witnessed winning grace, encouragement, and true sportsmanship. Josie cheers on and encourages all those around her. She leads with kindness and shows exactly what it means to be a role model in the sport of archery. I could not be prouder of her!”
South Carolina S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock said, “The power of strong relationships in building a successful program has been a major key to growing South Carolina S3DA. Partnering with archery professionals, enthusiasts, and dedicated community members like Assistant Principal and Head Archery Coach, Clint Jones at Riverpointe Christian Academy illustrates how collaboration and mutal support can enrich youth programs. This kind of network not only enhances the programs credibility but also creates a nurturing environment where young people can thrive. Organizing a successful state championship requires careful selection of a facility that meets specific requirements to ensure safety, compliance with regulations, and a positive experience for both participants and spectators.”
“My partnership with SC S3DA and Sheila Tadlock has been a rewarding opportunity to help grow youth archery in South Carolina. Sheila’s dedication to the sport and the archers she serves is unmatched, and working alongside her has strengthened our shared commitment to providing young athletes with a strong competitive platform. Hosting the South Carolina S3DA State Championship at Riverpointe Christian Academy was a privilege, and I was thrilled with how smoothly the tournament ran. The level of competition was outstanding, and it was inspiring to see so many young archers perform at their best. I look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting the next generation of archers in South Carolina,” said Clint Jones, Assistant Principal and Head Archery Coach.
South Carolina S3DA State Coordinator and National Conservation Coordinator, Patty Reel, was on-site with a conservation booth. Many folks stopped by and visited the booth as they were curious and asking questions about the fur pelts and gator taxidermy. Patty said, “I loved talking with the kids about conservation. They soak up all the information like little sponges. I always tell them that they can do conservation in their everyday lives. For example, making sure they throw away garbage in containers, and not on the ground. It is all about leaving things the way you find them or better.”
