Prairie du Sac, WI – Gearhead Archery continues to ride its wave of wins with yet another victory at the 74th Annual, Outdoor Field National Championship, held 7/26-7/28, in Yankton, South Dakota. John Wheeler, of Beckley, West Virginia, took top honors on the podium in the Bowhunter class at the annual event.
The Outdoor Field Nationals combines three different rounds of competition over three days of shooting. This tournament includes a Field round, a Hunter round and an Animal round.
Wheeler had to overcome adversity right out of the gate on day one, as his release broke and he was forced to use back-up equipment to continue shooting. Despite the early setback, he finished the Field round with a 532, 47x and held the third-place position. On day two, Wheeler took charge early, rolling through the Hunter round, posting a 545, 51x to take the lead by 10 heading into the final day of the event. The third and final round, consisting of the Animal targets, saw Wheeler deliver a knock-out blow, posting a 570 to secure the win with a three-day total of 1647.
Wheeler was shooting the Gearhead Archery B34 to win the Bowhunter class of the Outdoor Field Nationals. The B34’s perfect combination of speed, balance and forgiveness delivered flawless performance throughout the event.
It has been a dream season for John Wheeler, with the help of his Gearhead bows. Wheeler took home a third-place finish at the Lancaster shoot, second place in Vegas, and wins at the Cincinnati Indoor, the First Dakota Classic and now the Outdoor Field Nationals; all in the Bowhunter class.
“I am really happy John picked Gearhead as his bow of choice,“ said Skip Petersen, Co-owner of Gearhead Archery. “John has been a great ambassador for the Gearhead brand, telling and showing the whole world how great these bows shoot. If you see John on the range, he will even encourage you to shoot his!”
For 2019, Gearhead took an even bigger step into the world of tournament archery, offering an aggressive contingency program for those shooting Gearhead bows and crossbows, most of whom buy their own product on the merits of the product’s technology.
