HARRISBURG, Pa. (July 15) - Petersen's BOWHUNTING magazine, "The Modern Bowhunting Authority," is celebrating a quarter century of industry-leading archery equipment coverage and bowhunting adventures with the release of its 25th Anniversary Issue, which hits newsstands today.
"Twenty-five years really isn't that long, yet it feels like light years in the evolution of bowhunting equipment and tactics," said Editor Christian Berg, noting that common gear such as laser rangefinders, fiber-optic sights, scent-eliminating clothing and carbon-riser bows would have seemed like science fiction back when the magazine was founded.
The cover of the anniversary issue highlights that rapid evolution by showing a bowhunter in the same full-draw pose as featured in the Premier Issue in August 1989. However, instead of wearing Trebark camouflage and shooting an old Browning wheel bow with fingers and aluminum arrows, the hunter on the anniversary issue is donning Sitka Gear in Optifade Forest camo and shooting a Hoyt Carbon Spyder 30 equipped with a QAD Ultra-Rest, Trophy Ridge React-One sight, Apex Gear Carbon Core stabilizer, Easton carbon Bowfire arrows, G5 Havoc broadheads, Archer Xtreme Vapor Hyperlite quiver and T.R.U. Ball Fang release aid.
A special anniversary section inside the issue includes a timeline of significant bowhunting events and technological innovations over the past quarter century, along with reflections on the past 25 years from Field Editors Eddie Claypool, Jim Dougherty, Bob Humphrey, Patrick Meitin, Randy Ulmer and Bill Winke.
Of course, readers can also expect to find a wealth of practical equipment and hunting coverage, such as tests on the Mathews Creed XS compound and TenPoint Vapor crossbow, expert tips for opening-day whitetail success, proven strategies for success on guided hunts, how-to information for creating killer fall food plots, a guide for DIY caribou hunting in Alaska and 10 easy equipment changes to help you shoot better than ever before.
"That's what we do best," said Publisher Jeff Waring, "present timely gear and hunting insights to help readers make the most of their bowhunting opportunities. These are truly exciting times, and while the entire Petersen's BOWHUNTING team is thrilled to celebrate this special milestone, you can bet we've got our sights set firmly on the next 25 years."
