Williamsburg, KY – The crowd at the Owensboro Convention Center in Owensboro, Kentucky, was buzzing with excitement from February 27th to March 2nd during the 10th annual S3DA Eastern Indoor National Championship. Nearly 1,000 youth archers from 130 teams across 17 states gathered to compete for the prestigious title of national champion in their respective divisions and classes. The competition was intense, with 163 archers achieving a clean round of 150, and 83 of those archers going on to achieve a 300 over their two days of scoring.
After the event, the father of Noah Maloney, an archer in the Eagle Pins class, had this to say: “Noah aimed for a 150 at nationals last year and came up a little short. To see how hard he has worked this season and the time and effort he has put in, and to be able to watch it pay off, brings up a lot of emotions. Sharing this moment with my son was the best experience ever! I know how hard each and every one of these kids work, and to see twelve archers in Noah’s age division shoot a 300 is nothing short of incredible. That is not easy to do, and it takes a lot of time and practice.”
Velocity Archery Head Coach, Matthew Meng, reflected on the journey of his archer, Nehemiah. “Four years ago, we attended the S3DA Eastern Indoor Nationals for the first time. It was the start of a journey for Nehemiah. When he discovered that he could earn scholarships to compete in college, he was hooked! For the past four years, that has been his ultimate aim. This journey has been filled with ups and downs, challenges, and triumphs. I have had the joy of watching him grow and mature both as an archer and a young man. I have seen him encourage others, even when he missed out on some of his own goals. I have seen him pull teammates and siblings aside to pray for and encourage them. I have seen him get frustrated and want to give up, only to pull himself up and keep shooting at all hours of the day and night. I have seen him diligently apply himself to school and work to achieve his goals. I got to sit next to him as he signed a letter of intent, realizing the dream that began four years ago. I don’t know what the future holds for Nehemiah, but I am so proud of him and excited for his next season of life!”
This event attracted many collegiate archery program coaches who were on hand to recruit and speak with archers. Young adults who made it to the podium were presented with thousands of dollars in scholarship opportunities from colleges and universities across the country. Vendors such as Lancaster Archery Supply, Bohning, AEP (Arrow Engineering Products), B3 Archery, Clear Targets, Heavner’s Trainer X, and Patriot Archery were also present, marketing their products to the large crowd of archers and spectators.
