Westchester County Parks will again open portions of Muscoot Farm and Lasdon Park and Arboretum in Somers, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River and Mountain Lakes Park in North Salem for bowhunting deer this autumn. Hilltop Hanover farm in Yorktown Heights will be opened as a pilot program with limited hunter access.
Participants will be selected by testing and lottery.
Applicants must prove county residency and pass a proficiency test by hitting a nine-inch target at 25 yards, three out of five tries, using field tips only, at Blue Mountain Sportsman Center in Peekskill on Friday, June 21, Saturday, June 29, or Sunday, July 14, between 10 and 4. Following the proficiency test, qualified hunters will be selected by lottery.
There is no fee for applying or testing, but those selected for the program will pay an administrative fee of $40.
Signed applications must be received at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, P.O. Box 461, Cross River, NY 10518, attention Deer Management, by June 20.
