In Good Company at The American Club for POMA Visions Afield, Part 2

In early November, I wrote about Kohler, Wisconsin and my POMA (Professional Outdoor Media Association) Visions Afield adventure. I called that editorial “Part 1” as I kept debating on what else I should share in regards to my Kohler experience. (First, if you haven’t read “Part 1” please visit the November 6th edition of Archery Wire. It will help frame the rest of the story.) To summarize, I spent three days the last week of October with a few media members and photographers who are a part of POMA at an amazing lodge-spa-golf-fun destination that is Kohler, Wisconsin.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to stay in their new “wing” at Inn at Woodlake. I’ve stayed at the Inn several times, but this wing just opened and was built specifically with groups in mind. Think 4-6 people on a golf and spa vacation. Each four-bedroom suite has a common area of a gas fireplace, several seating options, dining table (aka poker table), wet bar and even storage in the entryway for your golf bags, which I conveniently used to house my shotgun. The spacious bedrooms have Kohler bathrooms that can only be described as your own “Kohler experience.” The best part of returning to these rooms each night was the hospitality shown to us by the Kohler staff. The first night I had my very own bottle of Kohler brandy and Kohler chocolates waiting for me. (I saved the brandy to share with hubby, but yes, I ate all the chocolates). The following night I had a winter hat with the Whistling Straits 2020 Ryder Cup logo on it, which I proudly wore the remainder of the trip. The little touches were sincere and kind.

In Part 1, I showed pictures from Matt Addington Photography, (http://MattAddington.com), which I’ll include a few more here. Most of the pics were taken at Kohler’s “hunting lodge,” which is known as River Wildlife. It’s an actual log cabin Mr. Kohler (the founder) discovered in Montana, bought it, dismantled and rebuilt it not far away from his factory. (Because that’s what any of us would do, right?!) It was meant as a respite from the factory for a little hunting and fishing – and today you can become a member of River Wildlife to hunt pheasant, eat fireside in the log cabin, practice your skills at the sporting clays area and other activities. Oh, and if this log cabin is too ‘modern’ for you, they also have a “rustic” cabin you can rent if you are a member of River Wildlife and want some alone time in the woods. Behind you runs the Sheboygan River, by your side are horse trails – and not far away are the fairways of Blackwolf Run…but you are enveloped in the quiet woods of Kohler property.

Matt and I neglected to take photos of the Archery Range on location. You’ll have to forgive us as Kohler staff, specifically Abe Foerster, Kohler River Wildlife’s Manager, are still working on setting up the range. However, I sent an email asking Abe to take photos of the range – and would you believe he did that within 24 hours? Abe is one of those people who is truly good at his job – and loves every minute of it. In fact, its probably not a job to Abe – and that’s the guy you want guiding you on your pheasant hunt.

What else do you want to know about Kohler and The American Club? Drop me a line and ask away. If you are planning a trip there, please do reach out as I know all the cool places and tidbits to help save dollars. Just don’t ask me for tickets to Ryder Cup in 2020 : )

Special thanks to Leslie Stachowiak, Associate Manager of Public Relations for Kohler and Justin Gephart, Director of Sales and Conference Services at Kohler, for their hospitality and generosity. – Michelle Scheuermann, editor, Archery Wire.

After a long day of pheasant hunting, fly fishing in the Sheboygan River, and trying to fit in client work - I sit down to a glass of Cab and Kohler Chocolates in front of the fire in the common area of my suite.

After a whiskey tasting and a great meal of elk tenderloin in the Wisconsin Room of The American Club, we decided this pic was a good idea. Thank you to everyone who attended POMA Visions Afield 2018!
