Pope and Young announces a new world record Woodland Caribou in the velvet category. Daniel Welker’s bull set the world record with a score of 362 1/8”, this is an incredible 107” larger than the next largest confirmed Woodland Caribou in Velvet
Pope and Young, America’s leading bowhunting conservation organization, officially announces a newly recognized world record in the Velvet Central Canada Barren Ground Caribou category. Taken in 2005 by Rodney Cockeram at Humpy Lake in the Northwest Territories, this is a trophy like no other.
The Pope and Young Club convened a Special Panel of Judges in Prescott, AZ for a potential P&Y World Record Mountain Goat. Kaleb Baird’s mountain goat scored an amazing 53 4/8” and is now the largest bow-harvested Mountain Goat in North America.
Justin Gordon’s velvet mule deer scored an amazing 324 3/8" and is now the Pope & Young record holder for largest bow-harvested VELVET Non-Typical Mule Deer in North America. This amazing mule deer was shot in Colorado, on September 2, 2018.
A Pope and Young Club Special Panel of Judges has certified Allen Bollen’s Velvet Typical Sitka Blacktail as the largest bow-harvested VELVET Typical Blacktail in North America.
Congratulation to Jeff Melillo, of New Jersey, on the confirmation of his 2019 Black Bear as the new World Record for the species. Melillo’s bear was harvested in New Jersey on October 14th, 2019. His bear tipped the scale at 700 pounds, but it is the size of the skull that placed him on top of the record books. After a 60-day drying period, the bear’s official measurement was 23-5/16”, topping the previous record from 1993 of 23-3/16”.
On Saturday, February 15th, the Pope and Young Club convened a Special Panel of Judges in Chatfield, Minnesota, for a potential P&Y World Record Rocky Mountain Goat. Rosey Roselands' goat scored 53 2/8" and is now the largest bow-harvested Rocky Mountain Goat in North America. This amazing goat was shot on Revillagigedo Island in southeast Alaska, on October 3rd, 2019.
On Saturday, February 8th, the Pope and Young Club convened a Special Panel of Judges in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, during the Great American Outdoors Show, for a potential P&Y World Record Black Bear. Jeff Melillos’ massive bear scored 23 5/16 and is now the largest bow-harvested black bear in North America.
On Friday, March 1st, the Pope and Young Club convened a Special Panel of Judges in Omaha, Nebraska for a potential P&Y World Record non-typical whitetail. Luke Brewster’s incredible buck was shot in Illinois during the 2018 archery season. Measurers present for the Special Panel were Eli Randall, Gil Hernandez, Jack Reneau, Ken Witt, Ricky Krueger, Kyle Lehr, Stan Zirbel and Panel Chairman, Ed Fanchin. With a final score of 327 7/8", Luke’s buck was confirmed as the new P&Y World Record non-typical whitetail. This buck surpasses the previous World Record non-typical whitetail shot by Michael Beatty in 2000 by over 33 inches.
Clayton Miller’s massive ram is now the largest hunter-killed bighorn sheep with both Pope and Young and Boone and Crockett. The ram was shot in Pennington County, South Dakota on October 30th, 2018.
On Wednesday, January 9th, the Pope and Young Club convened a Special Panel of Judges in Regina, Saskatchewan for a potential P&Y World Record non-typical mule deer. Dennis Bennett’s enormous buck has a 5 by 5 typical frame with 15 abnormal points on each side with a gross score of 303 0/8.
On May 19th, at a Cabela’s in Phoenix Arizona, Marvin Zieser, Corky Richardson, Roy Grace and Ed Fanchin convened a P&Y Special Panel of Judges to measure a non-typical Coues deer taken by Wesley Ely of Wilcox, Arizona.
A special Boone and Crockett Club judges panel declared a ram from Montana as the new World’s Record bighorn sheep. The four-member panel of senior Boone and Crockett Official Measures re-scored the ram’s horns and determined the final score to be 216-3/8 points B&C, surpassing the current World’s Record – a ram that scores 209-4/8.
A ram that died of natural causes is the pending new World’s Record bighorn sheep. The Boone and Crockett Club today confirmed the official entry score of 216-3/8 points B&C.
