As highlighted in a recent USA Today article, North Carolina is one of a handful of states that are working to repeal outdated Sunday hunting restrictions as state legislative sessions begin to wind down in 2013.
North Carolina Senate Bill 224, sponsored by North Carolina Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus Co-Chair Senator Buck Newton, would lift the Sunday hunting ban on private property in the Tar Heel State. Proponents of the bill tout the increased access and opportunity for families with school-aged youth and working adults that find difficulty hunting on Saturday with athletics and other activities that would result from the passage of this bill.
Just as important, is the potential economic impact that the expansion of Sunday hunting would likely have in North Carolina. A study by the National Shooting Sports Foundation found that if allowed, Sunday hunting would contribute over $311 million to the economy and would produce 3,600 new jobs with wages totaling $94 million in North Carolina.
