ATA Seeks Digital Content Specialist


The Archery Trade Association is seeking a Digital Content Specialist to support the ATA's Archery360.com, Bowhunting360.com and Archerytrade.org websites. This position will report to the Senior Director of Communications with team supervision from the Content Marketing Director and Public Relations Manager.

Candidates should satisfy the primary and secondary responsibilities and qualifications, and provide resumes, writing samples, photography samples, and full contact information for references. Some travel is expected. Work will be from a home office.

The Archery Trade Association is the organization for manufacturers, retailers, distributors, sales representatives and others working in the archery and bowhunting industry. The ATA has served its members since 1953. It is dedicated to making the industry profitable by decreasing business overhead, reducing taxes and government regulation, and increasing participation in archery and bowhunting. The organization also owns and operates the ATA Trade Show, the archery and bowhunting industry's largest and longest-running trade show worldwide.

Primary Responsibilities:

Photo editor for one industry-focused website and two consumer-facing websites

Select appropriate photos for 9-10 articles per week to be published on one of ATA's three websites
Caption and format photos with an eye to SEO best practices and support of the written content
Writer for ArcheryTrade.org and Bowhunting360.com

Research and write 4-5 articles per week, as assigned by website editor(s). Must be a self-starter, willing to independently research and analyze information and interview sources to craft content into a compelling article
Secondary Responsibilities:

Secondary copy editor

Serve as backup editor when primary copy editor is unavailable for work, editing articles written by other staff members
Photographer for occasional staff and Board meetings – approximately 6 times per year

Travel to ATA Trade Show, staff and Board of Directors meetings as needed to document meetings and capture appropriate head shots and other portraits for website content
Maintain the ATA's existing photo database, uploading images after events and keywording them appropriately

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional writing experience, whether as a freelance writer, journalist, public relations practitioner or digital content creator
  • Understands and stays current in knowledge of writing best practices and emerging trends in digital content
  • Demonstrates solid skills in selecting photos to complement digital content
  • Understands SEO best practices as they relate to photo selection and photo preparation for digital publishing
  • Skilled at writing captions and editing photos to help bring digital content to life
  • Strong copy editing skills and working knowledge of AP Style
  • Demonstrated photography skills
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 6 times per year)
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Degree in journalism, communications, writing, literature, or related field of study
  • Willingness to accept and incorporate constructive criticism and coaching
  • Knowledge of archery and bowhunting are a plus
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Initiative and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency in general office software programs, as well as Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Willingness to learn to use Trello, our editorial calendar management system
  • Flexibility in working in a small group environment
